10 Fall Staples You NEED to in Your Closet!

fall staples

I want to apologize in advance for all of the fall posts that are about to flood my blog. Fall has been one of my favorite seasons since I was a little girl. I remember I used to go outside with my grandma and pick leaves of all different sizes and colors. The season and upcoming holidays just bring back so many memories! Another thing I’ve grown to love about fall if all of the amazing fashion finds. The  trench goats, the beanies, the shades, the scarves…shall I go on…or shall I dive right into the fall staples?

Since I’ve discovered this new found love for fall fashion, I’ve quickly learned how overwhelming it would be when deciding on things you’d NEED f versus the things you WANT to splurge on. So, I decided to share my top 10 fall staples that won’t steer you wrong or have your pockets screaming bloody murder.

1. These Boots were made for Walking

…but no, seriously! Get you a pair of nice ankle boots or short block heeled booties that you can be both cute and comfortable in. I prefer to go with a black or some other neutral color so I can mix and match them with almost any fall outfit I may want to wear.  Black booties can also cost as much or as little as you’d like for them to. For me, I’m usually looking for a sale of some sort, but I as able to snag these super cute ankle boots from target that I tend to get lots of questions about.

2. Be Cute, but Bundle Up!

Since it’s getting cooler out, layering up is one way to stay warm and still be stylish. I love a cute Moto jacket whether it be suede or leather. There is just something about fall and jackets that just resonates within my soul. I cannot tell you why, but for a few years now I know I tend to stock up on cute Moto jackets as soon as September hits. So, I think its safe to say these jackets were definitely going to be on the #fallstaples list.

3. Gotta Love a cute Scarf

Remember those layers? Scarves are a nice way to layer up and still be stylish. When temperatures can get a little bipolar, wearing a scarf can be quite handy. You can take them off when it’s warmer or throw it on if you feel the chill coming your way. You can use a scarf to add a pop of color, some fringe for fun, or even one of those super cute knotted ones to give your look more flavor.

4. Did Someone Say Cardigan?

Yes, I did. Come on now! We all know that as soon as fall approaches, we whip out the cardigans. This fall staple may be a no brainer to some of you fashionistas, but some of us need a little more help than others. I know before I really cared much about fashion, I only owned a few cardigans. I didn’t realize how powerful they could be when it came to styling a look. They can really pull your look together and are also awesome to use when layering. I think my all time favorite cardigan is still my leopard print one from H&M.

5. A Little Over-the-knee Action

So, you already have your cute ankle boots for comfort. Now, its time to whip out those sexy otk boots for when you want to spice things up. Granted, you can also get a nice pair of otk boots that don’t have a heel, you only live once so LIVE IT UP! The plus to wearing otk boots is also the fact that they help keep your legs warm when the temps drop while still allowing you to look stylish.

6. Transition Seasons with a Transition Bag

When I think of both fall and spring, I tend to think of book bags. A lot of ladies love to wear small back packs as purses during the fall months. What better way to get a bang for you buck and still keep up with fashion with a back pack that can also transition into a handbag. They are so stylish and actually quite practical. This year, I’ve noticed that several shades or green seem to be what’s in so, in my shopping cart I have a really cute dark green convertible purse that I cannot wait to make my own!

7. The Trench Coat

Ah, another classic falls staple. Not much needs to be said about the old trusty trench coat. You can get the classic beige one to wear with almost anything or go for another color or even a print to make your look stand out. I also love how sophisticated and put together they can make your look. It’s definitely a piece you want to make sure you have in your closet for the season

8. Make a Statement (Hat)

2018 is the year of making your statement. The year is almost over so be sure to make yours this fall! Statements pieces have always been “in” but when its cold outside (pun intended) it can be more challenging to show of your statement piece when you’re all bundled up. A cute had can be seen both in and outdoors and will definitely make you stand out, if thats what you’re going for. For me, I only tend to break out the hats in the fall and summer. You can also get away with transitioning from the warmer to cooler weather with your cute hats also. That means you’ll get another bang for your buck in this category as well.

9. Ah, Sweater Weather

To know me, is to know my love for a cute, oversized sweater. Sweaters can be a simple or dressed up as you desire. They are a staple for so many reasons! They can be cheap, cute, functional, layered, and also a season transitioning piece. You see why they HAVE to be a fall staple?

10. Those Go-To Jeans

I know I’m not alone here when it comes to having those one pair of jeans that you’re always reaching for. All summer long, Im showing off my legs (hey, I worked hard for them) or trying to keep warm in some shorts, a skirt or sundress. But once the temps start to drop, I go to my closet and look for “those” jeans. The ones that I can dress up or down and that are super comfy. You are going to have to get you a pair of go-to jeans to add to your fall staples drawer if you don’t already have some. I tend to go for either black or a medium wash because I feel they are the most versatile. The distressed jeans are still in, but some other trends I’m noticing this year are wide bottom, two toned, and also lots of buttons.

I hope you found this list helpful and functional when doing your shopping this year. What new pieces do you plan on adding to your closet that you’d consider a fall staple?
